The Faith Based Coalition on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice organized a special international webinar to identify practical ways for Faith Leaders to assist the world to shift to a culture of prevention that will save thousands of lives, protect millions of women and save hundreds of millions of children from violence.
The panelists included internationally recognized experts on violence prevention, pioneers of city networks, and faith leaders. They identified proven solutions that tackle the roots of violence to reduce crime by 50%.
They highlighted how some cities have achieved and sustained remarkable reductions in violent crime by pioneering offices for violent prevention that plan the use of science.

Black Lives Matter and Defunding Police are issues of the moment but they continue massive public demonstrations over many years, particularly in the US and Mexico calling for the cultural shift to prevention and investment in young people and women. This webinar continues a conversation that was started last November in the Grace Cathedral in San Francisco where the UN Declaration of Human Rights was signed 75 years ago. It was started with leaders from 7 world religions, representatives from the office of local US Senators and Congresswomen, UNODC, experts and a pastor from Oakland working to get young men out of gangs.
It seems difficult to get the transformation from over-relying on flawed systems of police, criminal justice and incarceration that too often punish the poor and the disadvantaged while still allowing for brutal lapses in unnecessary use of police force. So the central questions are … How can Faith Leaders use their influence to spread the word? How can Faith Leaders partner with UN agencies? How can Faith leaders partner with city leaders determined to achieve a world safer from violent crime?
