Rights for Victims of Crime launched in Canada

Rights for Victims of Crime launched in CanadaReach Edmonton Council for Safer Communities hosted the Canadian launching of Waller´s new book on Rights for Victims of Crime.  He told the Mayor of Edmonton, members of their Police Service and victim groups how to reach international standards.  He called for a better balance between only reacting to crime and meeting victims´ needs for safety, reparation and justice.

Irvin Waller chose Edmonton to launch new book on Rights for Victims of Crime in Canada.

Governments in Canada use crime victims to justify more criminal laws but those governments do not deliver on what crime victims need.  His new book uses international standards, exemplary practices and science.  It makes a compelling case for a major rebalancing of justice in favour of victims.  The focus must be to stop crime, repair harm and provide victims with legal remedies.

The book is written to empower taxpayers and legislators.  It includes praise for the Province of Alberta and the City of Edmonton for their leadership in Canada to stop crime.  He hopes the book launching will interest Alberta and Edmonton in showing Canada how to deliver on crime victim rights.

Irvin Waller has won international awards for his contributions to UN rights for victims and stopping crime.  His book on reducing crime influenced the Alberta and Edmonton strategies to stop crime.  He is a full professor at the University of Ottawa.
