The Mayor of the City of Edmonton established a task force to recommend an evidence based strategy to reduce crime through prevention to complement policing. The City Council adopted the recommendations to create and fund Reach Edmonton Council for Safe Communities, which is a nine point plan including actions to reduce youth and aboriginal crime as well as establish a leadership centre to plan and evaluate initiatives.
